The Rijksmuseum: Discover 800 years of Dutch art and history

The Rijksmuseum is the largest museum in Amsterdam. Its collection offers an overview of Dutch art and history. From the Middle Ages to Mondrian. At the museum in the Museum Quarter in Zuid, you will find works by 17th-century Dutch masters such as Rembrandt, Vermeer and Hals.

The Rijksmuseum displays an iconic art collection reflecting more than 800 years of Dutch and global history. You will discover breathtakingly beautiful paintings by Johannes Vermeer, Jan Steen, Frans Hals and Rembrandt van Rijn, among others. The most famous work of art is undoubtedly Rembrandt's impressive "Night Watch".

Rijksmuseum Amsterdam

The current building, designed by Dutch architect Pierre Cuypers, first opened its doors in 1885 and has been a national heritage site since 1970. The collection contains numerous paintings, sculptures and historical objects ranging from the year 1200 to the present. Some of the most talked-about works include Rembrandt's "Night Watch" (1642), Vermeer's "The Milkmaid" (circa 1660) and an unnamed self-portrait by Van Gogh (1887).
